Dunraven School, Secondary Phase is looking to appoint for a fixed term for 1 year a well-qualified, enthusiastic colleague to join our thriving, oversubscribed all-through school. Responsible to: Student Support Hub Manager

RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Providing support to secondary school aged students who need guidance to overcome barriers and helping them to achieve their full potential. Ensuring that students who are disadvantaged the most are given priority.

Duties and Activities

  • Implementing the distinctive mentoring service within the school, with a focus on supporting students to address and overcome barriers to learning as well aiming for the highest possible standards of behaviour and attainment.
  • Working one-to-one and with small groups of students delivering solution-focused, tailor-made programs, relevant to ensuring that students’ individual needs are addressed.
  • Ensuring students are set Individual Action Plans with SMART targets which are shared with all relevant staff and families. Targets should be monitored and reviewed half-termly using teacher feedback, reports and achievement/behaviour logs and decisions made whether to continue mentoring and/or implement other interventions.
  • Regularly monitoring students through lesson observations, learning walks and liaising with families, class teachers, form tutors, senior team and other key staff via collaborative work.
  • Supporting student progress in mentoring through the monitoring of progress reports and other relevant documents.
  • Developing family intervention sessions as well as regular parent meetings and attendance at other key meetings with families.
  • Facilitating drop in sessions for non-referred students to support a wide range of issues including support with bereavements, college applications, revision and managing emotions.
  • To attend regular department meetings with all learning mentors and to participate in effective staff management through appraisal.
  • Regularly attending parents’ evenings, year team meetings and liaising with the parents/carers of students. Developing effective communication and relationships.
  • Participating in relevant professional development activities in line with school and departmental priorities.
  • Monitor personal performance against appraisal objectives to ensure that progress is made.
  • To develop knowledge surrounding current relevant developments and education policy in order to enhance the quality of support and student achievement.
  • Attend half termly Multi-Agency Meetings with social services and family support workers and weekly Inclusion Referral Meetings working closely with DOLYs and key Inclusion staff to discuss student issues including child protection, and action support such as a student care plan.
  • Facilitating Restorative Justice/Mediation meetings for the school community as necessary.
  • To effectively liaise with key Inclusion staff including the learning mentors, SCLN, the Base, Attendance Officer, SENCO, LSTs/LSAs, HLTAs and the referral centre.
  • To plan and facilitate group workshops by identifying gaps to attainment and using data effectively.
  • Supporting the planning and facilitation of the relevant programmes to prevent students from becoming NEET post-Dunraven.
  • Working with external organisations to support the emotional well-being and attainment of students.
  • To fulfil duties as Co-tutor, working closely with the year team in registration, assembly, monitoring academic and personal progress, attendance, punctuality and behaviour.
  • Team-teaching Personal Development lessons to the supported and standard curriculum Year 7 classes alongside the SENCO.
  • Promoting a distinctive mentoring service for the school through facilitating and contributing to training for colleagues on professional development days and in staff meetings.
  • Developing staff knowledge of mentoring through training and being able to transfer mentoring skills to teaching and pastoral staff linking with Quality First Teaching. Particular areas include managing behaviour and de-escalating difficult situations.
  • Cover the Student support Hub in the absence of the Manager and ensure that standards are consistently maintained.
